Is Bank in the Congestion Zone?

Bank is inside the London Congestion Charge Zone. The Bank area — including Bank Junction, the Bank of England, the Royal Exchange, and surrounding streets — sits in the heart of the City of London, well within the CCZ boundary. A £15.00 daily charge applies when driving here during operating hours.

What this means for drivers

Any vehicle (except exempt vehicles such as motorcycles and disabled tax class vehicles) entering the Bank area by road during CCZ operating hours will incur the daily charge. The charge must be paid by midnight on the day of travel, either online at tfl.gov.uk, via the TfL app, by phone, or through Auto Pay.

Bank is approximately 0.8 miles from the nearest CCZ boundary point. The nearest entry point is Aldgate, where the CCZ boundary crosses the A11 (Whitechapel Road). The zone runs roughly from Aldgate in the east to the City Road/Old Street area in the north, with the Thames as the southern boundary in this part of the zone.

Common routes to Bank

• From Brixton or Stockwell: Any route driving north through the CCZ to Bank will incur the charge once you cross the boundary (around Vauxhall Bridge Road or Elephant & Castle).
• From Canary Wharf: Driving west from Canary Wharf will cross the eastern boundary of the CCZ at around Aldgate. The charge applies from that point.
• From Shoreditch: Shoreditch sits just north of the CCZ boundary at Old Street. Crossing Old Street heading south into the City will incur the charge.

Failure to pay by the deadline results in a Penalty Charge Notice of £180 (reduced to £90 if paid within 14 days).
